A Weekend in London: Sightseeing, Shopping & Afternoon Tea at Oscar Wilde Bar

Not having a clue what to get my boyfriend for his birthday (why are guys so tricky?!), I eventually decided to surprise him with a weekend in London. I wanted to make it extra special so I didn’t tell him anything about the weekend other than where we were heading. I loveee London. Although I have what I can only describe as a tube phobia, you can’t beat the capital when it comes to shopping, great food and nightlife and so it’s always a bit of a treat to head down south. Arriving at the train station in Leeds and heading to the first class carriage, we began a weekend of birthday celebrations….

I booked us into K West, a boutique four star hotel in Shepherd’s bush, just a tube right away from all the sights and a couple minutes walk from Westfield Shopping Centre…I mean, for a shopping addict could this have been more ideal?! If you’re looking for a hotel in London then I’d definitely recommend K West. We were upgraded to their Executive Double room (the picture doesn’t do the room justice in any way) which was such a big room and had an extremely comfy kingsize bed, massive flat screen TV, cosy dressing gowns which are obviously super important and an ultra modern bathroom.

After leaving our luggage at the hotel, we headed to one of my favourite spots in London – Camden Town. I love the vast selection of stalls they have with foods from all over the world. I opted for freshly made pasta which we watched being made in front of us whilst my boyfriend went for Brazilian.

After eating, it was time to explore the quirky shops and it wasn’t long before I bought this hat from Lily J London. The white lace blouse I’m wearing is from Missguided and you can buy that here.

Leaving Camden Town, we got back on the tube and headed to Kensington to explore the sights of London until we had blisters galore (ew) and our feet ached badly! My boyfriend had never properly seen all the sights and seen as we were in London I thought it was a must. First up, we went to Harrods before heading to Buckingham Palace followed by Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament and Downing Street and then finally we visited Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden before getting the tube back to Shepherd’s Bush to have a much needed rest and get ready for the night.

Excuse the totally un-bloggable background! I wore this white jumpsuit from Miss Selfridge teamed with these gorgeous lace-up heels from ASOS (buy here) and my beautiful Marc Jacobs handbag which I am head over heels in love with! Unfortunately the white jumpsuit is no longer available but there are similar ones here and here. We headed to Radio Rooftop Bar on Strand for a few drinks before our meal which was so nice. It’s basically a bar with views of the city oh and drinks with a rather steep price tag!

After receiving a couple of recommendations from people, we ate at a lovely restaurant called Skylon which had views of the River Thames. It was incredible. The service, the food, the atmosphere, everything was faultless but the food in particular was sooo delicious. We started with cocktails before ordering a bottle of red wine and a 3 course meal.

The next day we had the continental breakfast at K West before getting ready for the day. After trying so hard to book Afternoon tea at the Ritz and failing due to it being booked up months in advance, I decided on the Oscar Wilde Bar at Hotel Cafe Royal. It was amazing. We had champagne, tea, a tier of delicious sandwiches, followed by a tier of desserts and they surprised my boyfriend with a mini cake and happy birthday. The room was so posh and luxurious and a man played the piano throughout which was lovely.

We then headed to the London Eye to see yet more lovely views of the city…

Then it was time to visit Westfield Shopping Centre and do a bit of shopping before catching the train back to Leeds.

What do you think of London? Where are your favourite weekend breaks?
